GROUPS FOR CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS

The Morgan Center's groups for children and adolescents teach social skills and build self-esteem.

Children and teens struggling with Attention Deficit Disorder, learning difficulties, and other challenges often feel that they don't "fit in." They frequently have significant difficulties reading social clues or recognizing and modifying their behavior.

A group setting provides opportunities to learn more effective ways to interact and a place to practice new skills. Groups help build social confidence and interpersonal skills.

WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS

Helping Children Cope With Divorce
Each year, the parents of about 1.5 million youngsters go through a divorce. This workshop will show parents how to strengthen their parenting skills and help their children navigate through this adjustment.

Helping Children Cope With Loss
The death of a loved one is always difficult. For children, the death of a loved one can affect their sense of security. Like adults, children express loss by grieving. Yet children may not demonstrate grief in the same manner as adults. Pre-schoolers usually see death as temporary; between the ages of 5 and 9, children begin to experience grief more like adults.

In this workshop, parents will learn how the age of their child determines how they view death as well as how they cope with it. Parents will learn how to help their children through honest communication.

The ABC'S of Stress Management For School Related Stress
School-related stress is the most prevalent untreated cause of academic failure in schools. Achievement stress, the widespread “invisible disability” is rarely detected but generally gets worse as children progress through school. Untreated achievement stress may result in academic failure, behavioral or emotional problems, drug abuse, and health problems.

Communication With Children and Adolescents
This workshop will provide a practical approach to parent-child relations and is designed to help parents relate more effectively to their children.  Parents who have taken this Group have reported several benefits, including:

  • Increased knowledge of child development

  • Improved relationships in their families

  • Improved communication with their child

  • Less conflict with their children
